THRIVE – 2017 Word of The Year

A lot has happened in my life; some good, a lot, not-so-good. I’ve spent the majority of my life fighting hard just to get through the day; just to survive.

However, little-by-little, in recent years, this has been changing. 2016 was one of the most challenging, yet rewarding years of my life because I was finally able to start to turn my health around, and my whole life has benefitted.

So when 2017 rolled around, I got to thinking about the year that lay ahead, as so many of us do, and I made a decision that this year was going to be all about taking steps towards no longer just surviving, but thriving!

No more was I going to just let life happen, and play a victim – I am going to be even more proactive about all areas of my life; my health, my finances, my relationships, my business – all of it! I’m going to take control of my own life!

Now, anyone who knows me, knows I’m a planner. I function so much better if I break things down into steps and work at them one-by-one. So, what’s the plan?

Well, I have a lot of them actually, for each area listed above. Here they are in a nutshell:

  1. HEALTH – Continue to eat well and exercise to help with losing fat and building strength and fitness. I will also be seeing specialists and doctors to help try and solve some of the issues with my sleep and hormones etc.
  2. FINANCES – My major finance goal for this year is to be able to save enough to head back to London at the end of the year, for a couple of months. I’d also love to do more travel while there this time. So the plan is to live fairly frugally over the coming months and only spend what is necessary and save the rest!
  3. RELATIONSHIPS – I’m a people-pleaser – as such I’m also a self-sacrificer and will usually put other’s needs before my own. That in itself is fine, except when it gets to the point of being detrimental to my own wellbeing – which for me, was at that point. So this year, despite the fear and anxiety and I going to stand up for myself and insist on pushing my relationships into a healthy place where they can thrive and be a joy for all concerned.
  4. BUSINESS – for those who don’t know, I am a freelance Graphic Designer. I run my own design studio from home. Most of my work is brand styling and website design for small creative business owners such as wedding planners, photographers, and also for bloggers. Running my own business has always been my dream, but it can be tough, especially in the times when business is slow. For a number of years I’ve had in mind some ideas to try and create passive income (that is income that after a little effort generates itself with little maintenance) through digital products of all kinds and resources for business owners. So, I will be working hard on actually making this happen this year.

Each of these areas have then been broken down into monthly goals too. To help with this I have been using the Powersheets created by Lara Casey from¬†Cultivate What Matters. I had purchased mine a number of years ago, and had never used them – so I’m now putting them to good use. They are a great tool to help you make an achievable plan towards any goal you may have. The powersheets sell out fast, and the new set have just become available for pre-order, so grab yours now!!

The hope is that all these things will work together to help me THRIVE! To at least head towards a life of joy, health, creativity and financial freedom!
